The big risk

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Aaron sent me a text message a while I was at work one day saying to read Matthew CH 6 vs. 26-34. It’s interesting (for those of you in the world who need to provide for yourselves and/or your family) that we worry about where we’re going to get our bread and butter, especially in times of change and risk. Aaron and I are both about to take big leaps of faith from our regular boring jobs to go in to full time ministry in a few different areas, which prompted these musings.

I suppose what Jesus is saying here is “Don’t worry, I’ve got you in my hands, you won’t go short, you won’t starve – check out the designs in nature and how much more do you matter to me than that?!” We’re still struggling with a few things in this whole area. I’m a business plan kind of guy, which is good and bad in some ways. Have an idea > make a business plan out of it > talk to people > get discouraged and put the idea in the bin.

Not this time, God say, “go and do it and I’ll look after you” – there’s no way you can bin that kind of promise! There’s people around us who tell us, or infer in the way they talk, “it won’t work”, “it’s risky” “there’s a lot at stake here”, “what happens when it all goes wrong”? “Are you sure it was God and not Jiminy Cricket”!? The answer is this passage; “Jesus said so”, “Our Father promised and he’ll make it all ok”, “we’re precious in His eyes”, “He is our Father and why would He seek to hurt us”. So why are we writing this? – As an encouragement, perhaps you’ve got your dream, or perhaps you’re waiting for it to happen, perhaps you’re blessed enough to be living your dream. Our dreams have been pretty wild so far, but when God speaks he also paves the way to make these things possible. Be encouraged by that, dream BIG dreams, go after the things the father has for you and don’t be afraid. Nothing is impossible, this is God who spoke super nova’s in to being, who told the nebulae to be, and who spoke life to this world, that’s the same God who loves you, he dreams of you and Jesus stands before Him as your defense in heaven. You are created to love and be loved by The Heavenly King of the universe, keep dreaming.
